What grade of acne do you have?
Always remember - Acne prevention is much easier and cheaper to address than correction!
GRADE 1 ACNE:
Every human being will have grade 1 Acne. This acne is present in the form of whiteheads and blackheads in small amounts and doesn't occur on a daily basis. This grade of acne has no inflammation or redness associated with it.
This acne is easily treated with over spot treatment products with ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.
This form of acne can quickly progress to grade 2 acne if not treated the correct way. Never pick your acne, the best way to avoid scarring and pigmentation is to have impurities removed during a Medical Acne Facial by an experienced Medical Esthetician.
GRADE 2 ACNE:
Better described as moderate acne, grade 2 is the most common form of acne and can be found in both sexes at any age. It comes in the forms of blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, and papules. They are occur more frequently and are associated with higher degrees of inflammation and redness. Menstrual cycles and hormonal changes do have an effect on producing this grade of acne.
This grade of acne can still be successfully treated at home with professional grade products and in clinic treatments. Using spot treatments with Benzoyl Peroxide and washes with Glycolic and/or Salicylic Acid will help make the condition more manageable. Other options are getting regular monthly skin care treatments by an experienced Medical Esthetician such as medical acne facials, chemical peels, and Blu U light therapy.
Picking and trying to extract acne yourself can lead to permanent skin damage and scarring. As always, grade 2 acne left untreated can quickly lead to grade 3 acne.
GRADE 3 ACNE:
Considered to be severe acne. This is when inflammation takes center stage. The areas effected as well as the surrounding tissue are red, sore and inflamed. There are greater numbers of papules, nodules, and cysts.
Seeing a skin therapist or dermatologist immediately will help effectively treat the area(s) and reduce the risk of scarring. Pharmaceutical grade systems such as Skin Tx are a good option for this severity of acne.
Intervention from a skin professional is 100% necessary at this point and treatment progress can take months to a full year to notice any substantial improvements.
GRADE 4 ACNE:
Referred as nodulocystic or cystic acne. This acne is very sore and painful and is present by a large number of cysts, papules, pustules, and nodules. This form of acne is so deep within the cellular wall that it can cause infection of the skin and will not come to the surface for easy extraction. A dermatologist will need to drain, excise, or inject with a steroid shot to help eliminate the infection. This type of acne will need to be treated with strong prescription based oral drugs.
Those suffering with this grade of acne usually develop some degree of scarring which is something that can never be reversed. However, there are treatments such as Fraxel Laser Resurfacing that can lessen the appearance to a degree.
With the help of a dermatologist and prescribed treatment program your skin can improve. Usually one or two rounds of systemic medication can help resolve this debilitating skin issue.
