Fibroblast (plasma skin tightening)
What is Fibroblast?
Fibroblast Plasma Skin Tightening is a cosmetic treatment that uses plasma, an ionized gas, to tighten skin non-surgically.
How does it work?
During the Fibroblast Plasma Skin Tightening treatment, an electric arc, also referred to as plasma flash, forms between the tip of the treatment handpiece and the patient’s skin. Through a process called sublimation—which turns a solid directly into gas—the targeted tissues are instantly tightened. This tissue retraction and tightening gives results that are comparable to invasive surgery. The treatment is performed without causing bleeding and more importantly without causing any damage to the surrounding tissue.
The first and most immediate effect is delivered to the outer layer of the epidermis where we create external micro-trauma which helps immediately contract and tighten the skin. The next major effect is that the plasma simultaneously penetrates down into the fibroblasts which are contained deeper within the dermis, in doing so, we stimulate accelerated fibroblast division and migration, as well as encouraging natural formation of new blood vessels and the release of growth factors. These growth factors include fibroblast growth factors, platelet-derived endothelial growth factors and cytokines. Cytokines are small proteins that are very important in cell signalling and which affect the behaviour of cells around them. They help modulate our immune response, they regulate cell maturation (aging) and quarterback the growth of new cells. They are particularly important in directing our bodies response to the inflammation trauma that we cause because they stimulate both cell repair and new cell reproduction.
The inflammatory response which occurs during the healing process also activates white blood cells which engulf and digest cellular debris, foreign substances, microbes, cancer cells, and indeed anything else without proteins that are beneficial for healthy cells.
"HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?"
Most patients achieve their desired results after just one treatment. However, depending on the area being treated, the skin’s laxity, and individual response to treatment, and after care, an additional treatment may be required after 6-8 weeks for maximum results.
"What skin types can you treat?"
On the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale , only skin types I, II and III can safely be treated. Anything higher and you are risking hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
