What Is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a special chemical solution applied to the skin for a short period of time to remove the outermost layer of the skin or deeper skin layers. There are three basic types of chemical peels: superficial, medium, and deep. The difference between them is the depth to which they penetrate the skin.
Chemical peels are used for skin rejuvenation and for improving visible signs of aging and pigmentation. By removing damaged skin cells and promoting the growth of new skin cells, chemical peels help improve skin tone, texture, and overall appearance.
Indications & Benefits of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are used for:
• Skin rejuvenation
• Reduction of fine lines and small wrinkles
• Reduction or removal of age spots
• Reduction or removal of sun damage
• Reduction of hyperpigmentation and melasma
• Reduction of scars and acne scars
Major benefits of chemical peel treatments include improved skin texture through removal of dead skin cells and stimulation of new skin growth. By stimulating collagen production, chemical peels may reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They can lighten hyperpigmentation such as sunspots, age spots, and melasma by exfoliating the top layers of skin where pigment irregularities occur.
Chemical peels may also help treat acne by unclogging pores and reducing the appearance of acne scars. They can minimize the appearance of large pores, promote more even skin tone, improve product absorption, and enhance overall skin appearance.

FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
There are three types of chemical peels: superficial, medium, and deep. They differ in how deeply they penetrate the skin.
Chemical peels are used for skin rejuvenation and may help reduce fine lines, small wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, melasma, scars, and acne scars. They may also help treat acne and improve overall skin tone and texture.
Healing time depends on the type of peel and the individual’s skin condition. Superficial peels generally heal within 1–7 days and may cause temporary redness, dryness, and flaking. Deeper peels may require up to 14 days or more and may involve more noticeable redness, swelling, and peeling.
Sun protection is important during healing. Harsh skincare products should be avoided, and activities that may irritate the skin — such as swimming or sauna use — should be postponed until healing is complete.
