IPL Photofacials

Intense Pulsed Light treatment for sun damage, pigmentation, and redness.

What Are IPL Photofacials?

IPL Photofacials are effective and economical treatments for removal of sun damage, age spots, melasma, and skin redness arising from rosacea and related vascular conditions. They are non-invasive treatments that use light-based technology to improve the appearance and condition of the skin.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light rather than a single focused wavelength. This allows it to target multiple chromophores in the skin, including melanin for pigmented lesions and oxyhemoglobin for vascular redness and broken capillaries. IPL also stimulates collagen production, contributing to improved skin tone, texture, and firmness. It may also improve fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and acne concerns.

Areas Treated & Expected Results

While the face is the most common area treated, IPL can also be used on the neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs — areas frequently exposed to the sun and prone to pigmentation and premature aging. The neck and chest often show visible sun damage, while the hands and arms commonly develop pigmentation changes.

During treatment, light pulses are delivered to the skin and patients may feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snap. After treatment, mild redness similar to a light sunburn may occur and the skin may feel warm. Pigmented lesions may darken initially before flaking off or fading. Redness and vascular lesions gradually decrease as collagen production is stimulated. Most individuals require a series of 3–6 treatments spaced a few weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
